Steel 1018 – Low-Carbon Mild Steel for General Machining and Case Hardening
Steel 1018 is the most commonly specified low-carbon mild steel, offering an excellent balance of machinability, weldability, and ductility at low cost. With 0.18% carbon content it is readily case-hardenable via carburizing or carbonitriding, making it ideal for shafts, pins, and bushings where a hard wear surface over a tough core is required.
